This is a rare antique Rudolstadt-Volkstedt figurine from late 19th century depicting a Georgian street vendor couple in very richly decorated clothing standing on a round white painted porcelain base with bocage accents on the platform base. The man seems to be holding a cup and a tea urn used to sell teas in public during 18th century and the woman carrying a basket of fruits on her head. Exquisite finishing of flower basket, excellent workmanship of tea urn and superb painting of facial expression. Blue mark on the base from Volkstedt-Rudolstadt in Thuringia, Germany (used between 1895 and 1930). Marked in the underlayer in blue hay fork, part of the Arms of Schwartzberg (refer to guide book picture). Established in 1760 by George Macheleid during the reign of Prince John Frederick of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. Volkstedt-Rudolstadt porcelain gained a reputation for its finely painted and carefully modelled porcelain figures that it holds for collectors today. This is a rare piece of a Volkstedt-Rudolstadt porcelain figurine style and does not come often in the market. This lovely porcelain figure measures 16cm in height and 9cm. in width approximately. Condition: Minimal but barely noticeable restoration on the neck, left tip fingers of woman damage, (hence the low price) otherwise still in attractive condition.
